Gold necklace with pendant
Gold and garnets
Parthian, ca. 2nd century AD.
H. pendant: 2,54 cm; L. chain: 35 cm; Weight: 10,7 g
A triangular pendant with three tinkling bells hanging at the lower side and decorated with a drop shaped garnet setting at the top end. The pendant’s interior features two rows of triangular compartments, which likely would have contained enamel or glass elements. The pendant hangs on a long loop-in-loop wire chain with plain links ending with a cabochon garnet set in a round disc decorated with twisted wire. A hook formed closure. Wearable and the perfect accessory to add a bit of sparkle and whimsy to a holiday wardrobe.
Condition: Intact but some compartments now empty
Provenance: Formerly, in the notable Swiss private collection of a scholar, Bern, acquired in Istanbul.
