Bronze
European Bronze Age, 8th – 6th century BC
H. 10cm: L. 24.5cm; Thickness 0.7 cm
Although created some 3000 years ago for agricultural purposes, this remarkably modern looking bronze is perfect for a lover of contemporary art. In fact, it is a sizeable example of a sickle from the Bronze Age, a shape honed in order to harvest grains. The work of an accomplished bronze-worker, the refined shape of our sickle is strongly reminiscent of an abstract bird, bringing to mind the works of Brancusi or Picasso.
Condition: Intact, good variable green patina.
Provenance: Formerly priv. coll. Israel; thereafter London art market.
